Mrs. al-Assad visits Dar al-Rahma Orphanage-VIDEO

Damascus, SANA – Mrs. Asma al-Assad visited on Saturday Dar al-Rahma Orphanage in Rukn Eddin area in Damascus, on the occasion of Laylat al-Qadr (the night in Islamic belief when the first verses of the holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad).

Mrs. al-Assad toured the orphanage’s departments and inspected the services provided and the living conditions of the orphaned children.

She spoke to a number of orphan girls and the women looking after them about the study stages the girls have passed and about preparations for Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking at the end of Ramadan).

Caring for orphans “is one of the most sublime of all human acts, since it is man that is the most sublime of all ends we are all aimed at in Syria,” said Mrs. al-Assad, expressing thanks to the women in charge of Dar al-Rahma for the family atmosphere they have created at the Orphanage and the great care they provide the orphans.

At the end of the visit, Mrs. al-Assad attended an artistic event presented by orphan girls in which they performed songs about Ramadan.

Established in 2007, Dar al-Rahama Orphanage initially accommodated girls only. However, in 2012 boys up to the age of 15 years were accommodated. The orphanage follows the “alternative house” approach as it includes 21 housing units hosting 350 orphaned children, who are being looked after by “mothers” who live with them within a family atmosphere. The care provided covers the physiological, educational, health and scientific fields.
